Lynks’ new single showcases outrageously delicious queer chaos

Shamelessly bold and viscerally witty, the single comes fresh off the back of three EPs and sell-out UK tours, and was released in hand with an announcement of the artist’s debut album, which is set to arrive on April 12.

The single is packed with comedic lashings and lively metallic beats that hint towards what’s to come from the Bristol artist. And anyone who is familiar with Lynks knows to expect an unadulterated, ravishing queer revolution.

Written as a scolding critique of men with saviour complexes, the track, which is presented in their live shows alongside a gleefully excessive performance of resuscitation, fluctuates between catchy motifs and wry, expressive lyrics, emerging as a refreshingly uncategorisable sound that sits atop a bouncy, mid-2000s-informed pop beat.

“There’s this temptation to shrink yourself and make yourself seem all helpless and vulnerable with those guys, so they get to feel like some Big Strong Man protecting you,” said Lynks. “CPR felt like the perfect metaphor for that weird dynamic.”

“I first had the idea for CPR while doing a first-aid course at my old job. I was mid-chest compression on my dummy, and suddenly the chorus just came into my head over the rhythm of my hands on the doll. I quickly ran to the toilet to do a voice note, then got back to saving imaginary lives,” they added.

While CPR exhibits Lynks’ traditional, sincerity-free tone, the artist hinted that other tracks on their upcoming album will feature more sensitive, gently delivered narratives.

“I think on the EPs, I was trying so hard to get anyone to pay attention,” Lynks joked. “Early on, I was like ‘well, every song needs to be a hilarious concept.’ Whereas on this album, there’s quite a few of those, but there’s also songs that aren’t necessarily funny, or they’re exploring an idea rather than being really specific.”

Balancing existing tunes, including SEX WITH A STRANGER and USE IT OR LOSE IT, with new releases, the self-produced debut album will invite listeners to experience a dizzying ode to the messy highs and lows of modern queer culture.

ABOMINATION will showcase the glorious collision of the fruits of the artist’s decade-long personal journey and new experimentation. Scatterings of fresh, experimental vocals and a range of topics broader than any that have appeared on Lynks’ past EPs promise to make April’s album a heart-stopping release that is one to look out for.
